GAFCON Update from Bishop Jim: Receiving Inspiration for Gospel Movement

Dear Friends,

Today was again filled with great teaching, inspiring worship, and encouraging fellowship.

Our Bible exposition focused on the story in Luke of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Our preacher exhorted us to preach Jesus in the Old Testament and to preach well.

Our plenary topic was “God’s Strategy” (following the themes of “God’s Gospel,” “God’s Church,” and “God’s World). The central truth (and outline) of the plenary talk was “God’s strategy is a strategy of salvation through the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and through a rightly ordered church where people and transformed and live new lives.” As the speaker said, there is nothing new or startling in the idea. It’s pretty simple to present; it’s just hard to live. If you want to hear the address, here’s a link: https://www.gafcon.org/media/david-shot-day-4-gafcon-2018?utm_source=Jerusalem+Communciation&utm_campaign=6796bb3464-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_06_18_02_47_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_9a70f5e54e-6796bb3464-141669241.

At the end of the day, all 1,950 of us went to the Old City and stood on the Temple steps where Peter likely preached his Pentecost sermon for a “family photo.” Seeing “the nations” gathered where the movement to the nations began was quite moving.

I was struck today (again) by the level of commitment our brothers and sisters around the world have to Jesus. While we in the US might occasionally be inconvenienced for being Christians, they often live under the threat of death. I am inspired to up my game, to share the Gospel more boldly, and to seek deeper personal transformation.

By the time you read this, GAFCON 2018 will probably have produced a statement that outlines the future of the movement. I hope that you will take some time to read it and pray that God will use this movement to proclaim Christ faithfully to the nations.

With you in that mission,
