Bishop David Bane, who served The Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia until 2006, has been invited by Bishop Robert Duncan to serve as an assisting bishop for the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh (Anglican).
"I am grateful for Bishop David’s decision to minister with us here in Pittsburgh and his willingness to serve wherever he is needed in The Anglican Church in North America. Bishop David and his wife, Alice, are very welcome among us," said Bishop Duncan.
As an assisting bishop currently retired from full-time ministry, Bishop Bane will continue to make his home in North Carolina, but will be available when needed for parish visitations, confirmations and other ministry in the diocese, said Bishop Duncan.
Bishop Bane and Alice have four grown children and nine grandchildren. A native of West Virginia, Bishop Bane made a point to note that he is also a lifelong Steelers football fan. Before ordination Bishop Bane worked in the business world. His interests include golfing and woodworking.
For his part, Bishop Bane is looking forward to being available for ministry in Pittsburgh and throughout the Anglican Church in North America. "I’m just thrilled. I just want to serve the gospel. I went to seminary at the age of 40 to help people find Christ, and that hasn’t changed," he said.
