Bishop Alex’s 2024 Christmas Address

“While the idea [of Christmas] is so familiar it may lose its punch and its power, the truth and the hope of the gospel for us all is that in Christ Jesus, God—who made the heavens and the Earth—is near to us. God is with us. I’m praying that, in this Christmas season, you would truly experience the glory and the joy and the delight of knowing that God was made flesh and dwelt among us.”
Bishop Alex joins us from his living room with his Christmas greetings, reminding us that God isn’t far away or abstract, but that he came to dwell among us.
And since the Bishop’s Advent playlist was so well received, we asked him to put together a playlist of his favorite Christmas tunes, as well! Be warned, the list is not all sacred music. Listen to Bishop Alex’s Advent playlist on Spotify here.
The Great Promise of Advent

“We can very easily in this season get our heads down, be at whatever we need to get at, and be incredibly focussed in a way that we miss the entire experience. So I’m loathe to say, ‘here’s something else you might do in Advent,’ and add something else to the huge pile of things that I should do. So I want to make a little suggestion.”
In this week’s Advent message, Bishop Alex reminds us to look to Jesus in the midst of our busy lives and to take small opportunities to pause and dwell in the anticipation of this season. He recalls Jesus’s exhortation to us in Luke’s Gospel to “straighten up and raise your head because your redemption is drawing near.”
