Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh Announces New Canon to the Ordinary

PITTSBURGH, PA — May 19, 2023 – The Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh is pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev. Dr. Bill Henry as canon to the ordinary. In his new role, Bill will assist the Rt. Rev. Alex Cameron in the mission of the diocese, facilitating the bishop’s work as senior pastor and diocesan CEO and functioning as COO. "I'm really excited to have Bill on our team,” said Bishop Alex. “Bill comes to us with a lot of experience and a long history in the life of this diocese, particularly in the ordination process as chair of the Commission on Ministry. It will be great to have him on our staff."

Bill will be joining the diocesan staff on June 12, after wrapping up his work as senior associate rector at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Sewickley, PA, where he has served for the past seventeen years. “My wife Dana and I are looking forward to my opportunity to serve as canon to the ordinary in the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh, this next chapter in our life in ministry,” Bill said. “We have enjoyed getting to know Bishop Alex and Tamara and look forward to serving the clergy and parishes in the diocese.”

Bill is a native of western Pennsylvania, attended Quaker Valley High School, and was confirmed at St. Stephen’s. His wife of 32 years, Dana, is a licensed professional counselor, and together they have led marriage retreats for the diocese and for churches around the country. They have three grown children (Wilson, Annie, and Charlie) and two grandchildren (Beau and Bella). Bill is a graduate of Trinity School for Ministry (M.Div. 1998, D.Min. 2018), and he and Dana served at churches in Florida and South Carolina before returning to St. Stephen’s in 2006.

The Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh extends its warmest congratulations to Bill on his appointment as canon to the ordinary, and we look forward to his continued contributions to the growth and vitality of the diocese.
